Mainstream US stores worth a look

You do not always need a specialist shop

Plenty of British favourites turn up in ordinary US stores once you know where to look:

  • Amazon carries a surprising amount of British groceries, tea and sweets, often via third-party sellers. Handy for one-off cravings.
  • World Market (Cost Plus World Market) typically has an international food aisle with British tea, biscuits and chocolate.
  • Large grocery chains such as the big supermarkets often have an "international" or "British" shelf. Availability varies a lot by store and region, so it is worth a scan of the world-foods aisle.
One for the chocolate lovers Some familiar brands, Cadbury being the classic example, are made under licence in the US and can taste different from the UK version. If that matters to you, look for genuine imported bars at a specialist British shop or one of the online retailers above.
