Community & Events

Settling in is a lot easier with a few familiar faces and a pub that shows the football. Here is where to find British food, familiar pubs, expat groups and social events, in the US metro areas with the largest British communities.

A starting point, not the full picture These listings are a hand-picked start, focused on metros with large British populations. They are not exhaustive, businesses change hands and hours, and new places open all the time. Always check a place's own website or phone before you travel. We will keep expanding this section, and add more cities over time.

The British calendar

Guides to marking the big British dates from the US, with events, shops and US times.

How to find groups and events

The quickest ways to meet other Brits

Each city below now lists British societies, clubs and football supporters' groups we have checked, and there is a dated What's on list above. For everything else, and especially local Facebook groups, search a couple of trusted platforms for what is active near you right now:

  • Facebook: search for groups such as "Brits in [your city]", "British Expats in [your city]", or "[your city] British and Irish". Most metros have at least one active group. Join, read the pinned posts, and ask.
  • Meetup: search Meetup for "British" or "expat" groups in your area, which often run social nights, pub meets and family events.
  • InterNations: a global expat community that runs events in many US cities. Worth a look if you like organised meetups.
How we choose what to list We only publish groups and events we have checked on their own websites. Local Facebook groups change too fast to list reliably, so for those we point you to the search that will surface what is genuinely active today.
